Japan Airlines explores status match programs and new JAL Pay promotions
Japan Airlines (JAL) is exploring ways to attract high-tier frequent flyers from competing airlines. The company has included “status match” options in recent customer surveys to gauge interest in programs that allow elite members of other carriers to transition their status to JAL. This investigation follows recent changes to membership rules and fare structures at rival All Nippon Airways (ANA).
In conjunction with its loyalty service developments, JAL Payment Port Co., Ltd. has announced a promotional campaign for JAL Pay users running from October 1 to October 31, 2026. New users who register, set up Apple Pay, and meet specific charging and spending requirements can earn up to 2,000 miles. Additionally, a separate campaign offers up to 100% JAL Pay point rewards for transactions made via Apple Pay.
