Japan Ambassador identifies Nadia Comăneci as Romania's most iconic figure
Katae Takasi, the Japanese Ambassador to Romania, identified legendary gymnast Nadia Comăneci as the most prominent Romanian figure recognized by his fellow citizens. Describing her as a “true legend,” Takasi noted that her name is often the first associated with Romania in Japan, particularly among his generation.
The Ambassador also acknowledged swimmer David Popovici, congratulating him on his three consecutive European titles in the 100m freestyle, and noted that sports serve as an important bridge between the two nations.
During his tenure, Takasi has engaged with Romanian culture, mentioning his appreciation for local cuisine such as ‘mici’. He also shared that while he initially attempted to learn the Romanian language, he found the complex grammar challenging and noted that the high level of English proficiency among Romanians made continuing his language studies less necessary.
