Japan and Australia advance to 2026 World Cup knockout stage after draws

Australia and Paraguay played to a 0‑0 draw in Group D at San Francisco on June 26, leaving both teams on four points and confirming Australia’s progression to the round of 16. The result pushed South Korea down to sixth among third‑place qualifiers.

Japan and Sweden finished 1‑1 in Group F at Dallas the same day, giving Japan five points and second place in the group. Japan therefore qualified for the knockout round and will meet Brazil in the round of 16. The Netherlands secured the top spot in the same group with a 3‑1 win over Tunisia.
