Japan and France conduct joint air force training at Hyakuri Air Base

The Japan Air Self-Defense Force and the French Air and Space Force conducted joint tactical training at Hyakuri Air Base in Ibaraki Prefecture from September 15 to 18. The exercise was part of the French military’s “Pegase 26” deployment, a global mission spanning approximately 40,000 km to demonstrate support for freedom of navigation across strategic regions including the Arctic, Asia-Pacific, and the Middle East.

The training focused on enhancing tactical skills and interoperability between the two air forces. Key elements of the exercise included the coordination of different aircraft types, such as the French Rafale fighters and A330 MRTT Phoenix tankers alongside the Japanese F-2 fighters.

Beyond flight maneuvers, the exercise tested critical logistical interoperability, including fuel compatibility, aerial refueling procedures, communications, and ground support. French officials expressed gratitude for the logistical support provided by the Japan Air Self-Defense Force during the mission.
