Asian Games: Japan women win football gold; South Korea men secure fourth straight title
At the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, major football results were recorded in both men's and women's categories.
In the women's football final, Nadeshiko Japan secured their third consecutive gold medal and fourth overall title by defeating North Korea in a penalty shootout following a 2-2 draw. Key performances included a goal by Mami Ueno and crucial saves by goalkeeper Shuha Oba.
In the men's football final, South Korea's U-23 team defeated Japan's U-21 team 1-0 to claim their fourth consecutive gold medal. Eom Ji-sung scored the decisive goal in the second half. The victory is particularly significant for the South Korean players, as the gold medal provides an exemption from mandatory military service.
Other sporting highlights include the Japanese men's beach volleyball pair of Taido Mizumachi and Kota Kurosawa winning a bronze medal, marking the first Japanese medal in the event at the Asian Games in 16 years.
