Japan announces development grants for Mozambique and Pakistan

The Japanese government has announced two separate grant assistance initiatives aimed at infrastructure and healthcare development.

In Mozambique, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will disburse 1.691 billion yen (approximately 10.4 million USD) for the reconstruction of the Natete bridge in the Ribáue district of Nampula province. The project aims to replace infrastructure damaged by extreme weather with a more resilient design capable of withstanding frequent floods. The works will include bridge construction, access road improvements, and riverbank protection to enhance regional connectivity and trade along the Nacala Corridor.

In Pakistan, Japan is providing 21 million yen (approximately 142,500 USD) to the Dopasi Foundation through its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects. The funding will support the procurement of equipment and a vehicle for tuberculosis screening in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Chakwal. In collaboration with Toyota Tsusho Corporation and Fujifilm, the project will deploy a mobile health unit equipped with digital chest radiography and AI technology to provide medical services to marginalized populations.
