Japan announces logo competition for 75 years of diplomatic ties with Sri Lanka

Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has launched a public logo design competition to commemorate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Sri Lanka, set to occur in 2027. The winning design will serve as the official emblem for various commemorative events intended to strengthen the bond between the two nations.

The competition is open to citizens of both Japan and Sri Lanka, regardless of their current place of residence. Submissions must be original, unpublished works and are required to include both color and black-and-white versions, accompanied by an 80-word explanation. To address copyright concerns, the ministry has explicitly prohibited the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) in the creation of the entries.

Participants must submit their designs by November 13, 2026. While a winner will be announced in late December 2026, the ministry noted that the selected designer will not receive prize money, awards, or any other form of compensation. All copyright and related rights for the submitted designs will be transferred to Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
