Japan becomes top contributor to India's GCC ecosystem in Asia‑Pacific
Japan has emerged as the largest contributor to India's Global Capability Centre (GCC) ecosystem among Asia‑Pacific nations, with more than 100 Japanese‑run GCCs now operating in the country, accounting for about 5‑6 % of India’s total GCC landscape. These centres are evolving into strategic hubs for engineering, digital transformation and product innovation, covering areas such as artificial intelligence, embedded systems, cloud, advanced analytics and digital manufacturing. The sectoral mix is led by technology (20 %), followed by industrials (15 %) and automotive and healthcare (each 11 %).
The Deloitte India report estimates that India’s GCC sector could generate a net economic impact of USD 470‑600 billion by FY2030, contribute 2.2‑2.8 % to GDP and support 20‑25 million jobs (including 4‑5 million direct). Expansion is spreading beyond traditional metros to cities like Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Coimbatore, Kochi and Indore, driven by cost competitiveness, talent pools and supportive state policies. Bilateral momentum, including a JPY 10 trillion (USD 68 billion) investment pledge and digital partnership initiatives, is further accelerating the growth of Japanese GCCs in India.
