Japan book markets react to SNS awards and new comic contests
The 'SNS Recommended Book Award 2026' has concluded its final voting phase, demonstrating the impact of social media on physical book sales. At the Kochan Four Wakabadai bookstore, sales for the 20 nominated works rose by 187.6% compared to the previous month. The award ceremony is scheduled for October 30 in Tokyo.
Simultaneously, NTT Solmare's digital bookstore, Comic Seymour, has launched voting for the 'Everyone's Choice!! Electronic Comic Award 2027.' Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the award features 100 nominated works from 54 publishers. To accommodate evolving trends, the competition has expanded its categories to include specific 'Isekai' divisions for both male and female audiences. Voting is open from September 29 through November 24, 2026, allowing users to select up to six works.
