Japan Boosts Local Fruit Harvests in Yamanashi and Chiba

The Yamanashi Prefecture’s Kawagoe‑East region, recognized in 2022 as a World Agricultural Heritage site, is holding an Autumn Fruit Market in Nakano Ward, Tokyo, from September 14‑16, 2026. The event showcases seasonal produce such as Shine Muscat grapes and other local fruits, along with displays of the region’s traditional fruit‑tree agriculture system.

In Chiba Prefecture, Matsudo City – known as the birthplace of the 20th‑century pear – has opened its pear‑harvesting season for 2026. From late July through early October, more than 40 orchards across the city offer “Matsudo no Nashi” pears for pick‑your‑own and direct sales, attracting visitors from Tokyo, Saitama and beyond. Varieties include the early‑season Kosui and the later‑season Niitaka, with typical prices around ¥1,000 per kilogram.
