Japan celebrates the tradition of autumn reading, known as ‘dokusho no aki,’ a cultural practice popularized by Natsume Soseki. This season often includes nationwide events at libraries and bookstores held between late October and early November.

Notable titles include ‘Kami Eshi ni Naritai!’ by Seara Haru, an entertainment and lesson novel focused on illustration growth, and ‘Kami no Cho, Mau Hate’ by Nahoko Uehashi. Additionally, Kodansha is releasing non-fiction series for 5th and 6th graders titled ‘Otona mo Shiranai Honto ni Atta Ohanashi,’ designed to foster reading comprehension and global awareness.
Other recommended Japanese literature for the autumn season includes ‘Tsubaki Stationery Store’ by Ito Ogawa, ‘A Day for Bread, Soup and Cats’ by Yoko Mure, and ‘Traveling Practice’ by Yusuke Norishiro.
