Japan community sports programs engage students through basketball and goalball

Local community sports initiatives are being held in Japan to promote athletic engagement and awareness of para sports.

In Kamimaki Town, the Bambitious Nara basketball team conducted a clinic for local elementary school students. Supported by donations from Rohto Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., the session featured players coaching both beginners and experienced participants on shooting, dribbling, and defensive techniques. The event concluded with a match and an autograph session for the children.

In Toyohashi City, Tamagawa Elementary School hosted a para sports workshop ahead of the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Para Games. Former Japan national goalball player Tomoe Takada led a session for 66 third and fourth-grade students. The workshop used goalball to teach students about visual impairments, explaining how specialized equipment like eye shades and bells in the ball allow for equitable play. Students participated in defensive drills and mini-games to experience the sport firsthand.
