Japan conducts regional disaster preparedness and emergency response drills

Various disaster preparedness drills were conducted in Japan to enhance emergency response capabilities. In Otofu, a comprehensive training session was held to coincide with Disaster Prevention Day. The exercise simulated flood scenarios, featuring the first-time use of drones and disaster rescue dogs to locate individuals and assist in rescue operations. Participants also practiced sandbagging and installing water stops to mitigate river flooding.

In Kita Nagoya, an exercise focused on the establishment and operation of temporary disaster waste storage sites. This drill, conducted in anticipation of a Nankai Trough earthquake, involved the Aichi Prefecture Industrial Resources Circulation Association and local municipalities. The training aimed to verify the rapid and appropriate processing of disaster waste and included the testing of a new smartphone-based system for managing waste intake procedures.
