Japan considers education-based social media rules for children
Japan is considering a distinct approach to regulating social media use among children, contrasting with other nations that have implemented outright bans. Discussions in Japan emphasize a balance between regulation and education, with some advocates suggesting that strict age limits may be less effective than fostering digital literacy and establishing household rules.
In response to rising internet crimes and social media troubles affecting minors, the Association for Promoting a Healthy and Safe Society will host the 3rd World Safety and Security ‘Kizuna’ Forum in Shinagawa, Tokyo, on September 4. Supported by the National Police Agency, the event aims to protect children from online dangers through educational sessions, including lectures by the National Police Agency’s Life Safety Bureau on how to handle internet-related incidents and how to act appropriately when trouble arises.
