Japan Contact Lens Market Projected to Reach $640 million by 2034

IMARC Group released a market research report forecasting that Japan's contact lens market will grow from $496 million in 2025 to $643.6 million by 2034, driven by a compound annual growth rate of 5.15%. The growth is attributed to Japan’s high myopia prevalence, especially among school‑age children, prompting demand for both corrective and myopia‑control lenses. Manufacturers are investing in advanced silicone‑hydrogel and hybrid materials to improve oxygen permeability and wearer comfort, while lifestyle‑focused lenses such as colored and patterned designs gain popularity through e‑commerce channels.

The report notes upcoming product launches, including the 2026 release of the soft pediatric myopia‑control lens “MiSight 1 day,” the first such lens approved by Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. A consortium of universities and the lens maker Seed Co. is also accelerating development of smart contact lenses capable of monitoring glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy, targeting commercial use around 2030.
