Japan cricket chief promises superior accommodation for Asian Games players

Naoki Alex Miyaji, CEO of the Japan Cricket Association, stated that cricket players at the upcoming Asian Games in Nagoya will receive hotel accommodations, which are superior to the facilities provided to many other athletes. This announcement follows concerns raised by officials, including a Sri Lankan representative, regarding a shortage of five-star hotels for the event.

Due to the high number of participating athletes, which has reached 17,000, organizers are utilizing diverse lodging options including cruise ship cabins, temporary wooden containers, and hotels, as there is no dedicated athletes’ village. While cricket is a minor sport in Japan, the tournament is being managed by the Asian Games organizing committee in partnership with the Asian Cricket Council.

Matches are scheduled to take place at Korogi Sports Park, a converted baseball field located approximately 40 minutes from central Nagoya by train. Reports from India indicated that the Indian cricket board expressed dissatisfaction with the arrangements, leading to speculation that they might field a second-string squad.
