Yatsushiro begins emergency demolition following Kumamoto earthquake

In Yatsushiro, Kumamoto Prefecture, emergency demolition of dangerous buildings funded by public money has commenced following the Reiwa 8 Kumamoto Earthquake. On August 17, the city began dismantling structures deemed to pose a risk of secondary damage, including a collapsed warehouse.

Yatsushiro City has started work on four buildings, with plans to expand the program to include houses with partial or significant damage based on applications starting around October. In Kumamoto Prefecture, a total of 31,644 homes have been affected by the earthquake, including 1,449 buildings that were completely destroyed.
