Japan donates heavy machinery to Burkina Faso for road maintenance
Japan has provided a significant donation of heavy machinery and equipment to Burkina Faso to support road maintenance and infrastructure development. On August 28, 2026, Japanese Ambassador Jun Nagashima officially handed over the first batch of equipment to Mikaïlou Sidibé, the Minister of Construction and the Homeland.
The donation includes 22 pieces of machinery, such as bulldozers, motor graders, dump trucks, hydraulic excavators, wheel loaders, and concrete mixers, along with various logistical transport means. This initiative is part of the Road Maintenance Equipment Improvement Project, funded by the Japanese government through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The project, valued at 1,006,000,000 yen, stems from a grant agreement signed on January 26, 2024. The equipment is specifically intended for the Road Maintenance Brigade to enhance national capacity for preserving and maintaining the country's road network and improving operational response capabilities.
