Japan DT Association promotes international exchange in dementia therapy
The Japan DT Association is facilitating international exchange to improve elderly care through Dementia Therapy (DT). A key upcoming event is the ‘Japan-US DT & RT Exchange Forum’ on November 14, which aims to bridge Japanese practices with international Recreational Therapy (RT) standards from countries such as the US, Canada, Australia, and the UK.
DT focuses on understanding an individual’s personal history, preferences, and desires to create personalized care plans rather than providing generic recreation. Experts emphasize using ICT and care technology to increase efficiency, thereby freeing up time for staff to engage in meaningful, person-centered interactions with residents.
The association continues to provide training for DT workers across various settings, including hospitals, nursing homes, and home-visit care, integrating fields such as behavioral analysis and neuroscience into their curriculum.
