Japan educational seminars to focus on teacher agency and inquiry-based learning

Educational organizations and local governments in Japan are hosting upcoming online seminars focused on advancing inquiry-based learning and teacher agency.

IGS will hold a seminar on November 30 regarding the development of student abilities and the realization of appropriate evaluations. The session aims to explore school management and training design to enhance teacher agency, featuring insights from Mieko Kodaka of the Toda City Board of Education and Professor Keiichi Nishimura of Tokyo Gakugei University.

Additionally, Inspire High, in collaboration with the Shibuya City Board of Education and Sasazuka Junior High School, will host a seminar on October 27, 2026. The discussion will focus on the third year of the ‘Shibuya Future Studies’ initiative, a program designed to promote inquiry-based learning through specialized curriculum hours. The seminar will feature Shun Yanagida from the Shibuya City Board of Education and Ryota Negishi, an inquiry coordinator at Sasazuka Junior High School, to discuss the practical implementation and challenges of driving such initiatives within school environments.
