Japan establishes action plan to counter CBRNE terrorism

The Japanese government has finalized an action plan to counter CBRNE terrorism, which encompasses threats involving chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive materials. The plan aims to enhance the nation's ability to protect citizens and respond effectively to large-scale incidents.

Key measures include the establishment of an expert panel composed of doctors, academics, and former security officials to advise the government's antiterrorism headquarters during emergencies. Additionally, a new inter-agency committee will be formed to collect and analyze intelligence regarding emerging threats, such as the use of drones and artificial intelligence in terrorist activities.

To improve medical response, the government intends to strengthen the stockpiling and distribution of medical supplies, expand training for healthcare institutions, and facilitate better information sharing between police and medical professionals. Chief Cabinet Secretary Minoru Kihara emphasized the necessity of these preparations, noting that Japan cannot rule out the possibility of becoming a target for such terrorism.
