Japan expands support networks and training for young carers

Efforts to support young carers in Japan are expanding through new regional exchange programs and specialized training sessions.

N. K. C Nursing Core Corporation, supported by the Children and Families Agency, will host exchange meetings in Tottori and Kagawa prefectures in November 2026. These events aim to build a cross-regional network for local government officials, educators, and welfare workers to share practical knowledge on identifying and supporting young carers. The initiative includes follow-up online support and the launch of a dedicated portal site to facilitate continuous collaboration.

In Okinawa, a training workshop was held in Naha to improve how professionals interact with young carers and their families. Led by representatives from the NPO Plus Artha, the session focused on practical interview techniques and the use of visual tools to better understand the needs of both the children and their parents.
