Japan experiences first snow in Hokkaido and approaching Typhoon 30

Significant seasonal shifts are occurring across Japan. In Hokkaido, strong cold air has brought the season's first heavy snowfall to high-altitude areas, including Mikuni Pass in Kamishihoro and Nissho Pass in Shimizu, between the night of October 21 and the morning of October 22. First snow has also been officially observed in Wakkanai and Asahikawa.

Simultaneously, Typhoon 30 is expected to make its closest approach to the Sakishima Islands in Okinawa tomorrow. Residents in those areas are advised to remain on high alert for violent winds, high waves, and potential landslides. As the typhoon moves, heavy rain is forecasted to affect western and eastern Japan from Sunday through Monday due to the combined influence of the typhoon and weather fronts.
