Japan experiences significant temperature fluctuations
Japan experienced widespread seasonal lows on the morning of October 18, with approximately half of the country recording its coldest temperatures of the season. In Hokkaido, Rikubetsu recorded a low of -4.3°C, the lowest in the nation for the season.
Despite the cold mornings, temperatures rose significantly during the day due to sunny conditions. In Tokyo, the morning low of 13.8°C was followed by a daytime high of 24.7°C. Some regions in Kyushu, such as Kumamoto and Fukuoka, saw temperatures reaching 30°C to 31.5°C, resulting in unseasonably warm summer-like conditions.
Large temperature swings of over 15°C were expected in several areas, such as Niigata. While much of the country remained sunny, there was a possibility of scattered showers in Kyushu, Chugoku, and Shikoku. Looking ahead, weather patterns suggest increased rain and cloud cover across western and northern Japan starting Monday due to autumn rain fronts and low pressure.
