Japan Extends Visa‑Free Travel for Brazilians Until 2029
Japan has renewed its visa‑exemption agreement with Brazil, allowing Brazilian citizens to enter Japan without a visa for short‑term stays of up to 90 days until September 2029. The waiver applies to tourism, family visits, cultural events and business trips that do not involve paid employment, and requires a valid electronic Brazilian passport.
At the same time, Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced severe budget cuts that are delaying the issuance of Brazilian passports at its consular post in Tokyo. Applicants face longer processing times and must schedule appointments well in advance, although emergency medical or humanitarian cases will still receive priority service.
