Japan faces heat wave and triple‑typhoon threat

A heat wave is sweeping Japan, with temperatures well above seasonal averages. In Yamagata Prefecture, daytime highs are forecast at 32‑33 °C and night temperatures remain warm, prompting warnings of heat‑related illness. The Japan Meteorological Agency has issued a heat‑stroke alert as tropical night conditions return.

Simultaneously, three typhoons are developing. Typhoon 13, a large and powerful system, is expected to approach Okinawa later this week before turning northward. Typhoon 14 formed on August 5, and Typhoon 15 also emerged, projected to move eastward before curving north. The combined effect of these storms, described as a “triple typhoon,” raises concerns about high waves, heavy rain, and further heat‑related risks across central and eastern Japan, including Shizuoka and surrounding coastal areas.
