Japan GLP and JFE to develop 300 billion yen logistics hub in Kawasaki

Japan GLP, JFE Holdings, and Kawasaki City have announced the ‘ALFALINK Kawasaki Senagishima Project,’ a large-scale redevelopment of the former JFE Steel East Japan Works site in Kawasaki. The project involves an investment exceeding 300 billion yen to create a massive multi-functional logistics hub focused on cold chain infrastructure.

The development will consist of 11 buildings with a total floor area of approximately 370,000 square meters and a storage capacity of roughly 550,000 tons. The facilities are scheduled to be completed in stages starting from July 2030. The initiative aims to strengthen food security and stabilize the supply of food in the Tokyo metropolitan area by addressing industry challenges such as aging facilities and limited storage capacity.

The project also emphasizes Green Transformation (GX) and Digital Transformation (DX). Planned initiatives include the use of hydrogen mobility, the installation of hydrogen stations, and the promotion of modal shifts via Kawasaki Port. Additionally, the partners intend to explore the use of autonomous trucks, advanced DX equipment, and enhanced disaster relief logistics capabilities.
