Japan: Harassment reports in mountains and child assault arrest

In Japan, social media reports have highlighted increasing concerns regarding the harassment of female hikers. Women visiting popular locations such as the Alpine Route and Kamikochi have reported being persistently approached or followed by older men. While some men may claim to be offering assistance with mountain navigation, victims have described the behavior as intimidating and unwelcome.

Separately, in Takikawa, Hokkaido, a 45-year-old caregiver was arrested on suspicion of assault. Police report that the man struck his 9-year-old son in the face during the early hours of October 23 after becoming angry that the child was playing video games. The boy sustained minor facial bruising. The incident came to light after the child's mother contacted emergency services.
