Japan heatstroke and dental health awareness surveys
Recent surveys in Japan highlight a dual concern regarding summer heat: effective heatstroke prevention and the unintended dental risks associated with hydration methods.
One survey regarding heatstroke preparedness found that while 93% of respondents actively monitor heat information, only 34% know specific first-aid procedures. A majority (63%) expressed uncertainty about how to respond if someone shows symptoms. Additionally, while awareness of cooling shelters is relatively high at 80%, only 16% of people understand the specific locations or systems available to them.
Separately, an oral care study by HaRENO revealed a significant gap in dental health awareness among those managing heatstroke. While 75% of respondents are conscious of heatstroke prevention, 87% are unfamiliar with dental erosion (acid erosion). Approximately 55% of participants were unaware that frequent consumption of sports drinks or oral rehydration solutions can increase the risk of cavities and erosion. The study noted that only about 27% of people rinse their mouths after consuming these acidic beverages, and only 25% brush their teeth afterward.
