Japan highways face closures and restrictions due to heavy rain and wind

Severe weather conditions, including heavy rain and strong winds, are causing significant transportation disruptions across several regions in Japan.

On the Seto Chuo Expressway, strong winds led to a 50 km/h speed limit for both directions between Kojima IC and Sakaide IC starting the morning of September 9. Additionally, motorcycle traffic was prohibited on the same stretch. In Kagawa Prefecture, heavy rain warnings have prompted evacuation orders for parts of Mitoyo and Zentsuji cities.

Central Japan Expressway Company has also warned of potential closures on various highway segments from September 9 to September 11 due to heavy rain. Affected areas include sections of the Tomei Expressway, Shin-Tomei Expressway, Hokuriku Expressway, Chuo Expressway, and the Tokai-Hokuriku Expressway. These potential closures and restrictions span multiple prefectures and are expected to fluctuate based on weather developments.
