Japan hosts Creators Grand Prix and Japan Toy Award 2026 ceremonies

The Satellite Broadcasting Association held the inaugural Creators Grand Prix 2026 at the Tokyo International Forum. The competition, designed to support original programming in an era of tightening budgets and compliance constraints, awarded 10 million yen to the winning project. The grand prize went to the documentary ‘Who Will This Child Live With?’, presented by Hiroe Wada of CS Nippon, which follows a CODA (Child of Deaf Adults) girl and her family.

Separately, the Japan Toy Award 2026 ceremony took place, where MegaHouse’s ‘Investment Ranking’ won the Grand Prize in the Game & Puzzle category. The board game, which uses themes of gold, stocks, and crypto-assets to teach financial concepts, reflects a growing interest in financial education following the introduction of mandatory asset formation studies in Japanese schools.

The Japanese toy market has reached a record high of 1.1664 trillion yen for the 2025 fiscal year, marking six consecutive years of growth. This expansion is driven by the ‘kidult’ demographic—adults purchasing toys—and the popularity of trading cards and nostalgic items.
