Japan hosts regional SpoGOMI environmental competition events

Various regional environmental events organized by the Nippon Foundation SpoGOMI Federation were held in Japan during September 2026, combining competitive waste collection with community engagement.

In Tottori Prefecture, the SpoGOMI Koshien 2026 Tottori Tournament took place at Minatoyama Park in Yonago City. Sixteen high school teams participated in the 60-minute competition, collecting a total of 81.09 kg of waste. The team ‘Gachi’ from Yonago Higashi High School secured first place by collecting 14.49 kg of trash.

In Aomori Prefecture, the ‘e-SpoGOMI with LIDEAL Aomori’ event was held at the Machiniva plaza in Hachinohe City. This hybrid event combines traditional waste collection with e-sports elements to raise awareness about marine debris. Eight teams participated, collecting approximately 16 kg of waste in total. The team ‘Clevers’ emerged as the winner of the competition.
