Japan hosts various library and community book events
Various literary and community-focused events are scheduled across Japan, highlighting the role of libraries in social engagement.
In October, the Seibu Library will host a series of 20th-anniversary events. The program includes a lecture and signing session with picture book author Jun Takabatake, photo sessions with popular characters like Zorori and Oshiri Tantei, and creative workshops such as making eco-bags from book covers. Other activities include storytelling sessions, film screenings, and study spaces for students.
In Kanagawa, a special event celebrating the publication of new books regarding community-led libraries will take place at Pacifico Yokohama on October 20, 2026. The event features a talk session and signing with Yoshimitsu Isoi, representative of Machi Library, and Junya Dohi, director of Minna no Toshokan Sankaku. The session will explore the creation of spaces where citizens connect through books.
