Japan implements dementia screening and consumer protection initiatives
Efforts to address dementia through early detection and consumer protection are expanding in Japan. In Akita Prefecture, Akita University has launched a series of simple screening sessions aimed at early identification. These sessions, which began in Kitaakita City, integrate testing for cognitive function and hearing to provide participants with professional advice. The initiative is scheduled to expand to seven municipalities within the prefecture by October.
In Kyoto Prefecture, a seminar is being organized in Uji City to address consumer fraud linked to cognitive decline. Led by Professor Jin Narumoto, the session will focus on protecting the finances and daily lives of individuals and their families by identifying the characteristics of consumer troubles related to dementia and Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI).
