Japan industrial production falls 2.4% in August
Japan's industrial production declined by 2.4% in August compared to the previous month, according to revised data from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). The index reached 101.9 points, while industrial shipments saw a sharper decline of 2.9%.
Despite the monthly drop, the year-on-year comparison shows a 2.7% increase in production. This divergence raises questions regarding whether the monthly decrease represents a temporary correction or the beginning of a more persistent industrial slowdown. The decline impacts key high-value sectors, including automotive, electronics, and precision machinery, which are vital to international supply chains.
