Japan introduces social insurance reforms and welfare management updates

New measures regarding social insurance and welfare management are being introduced in Japan. A seminar hosted by the Izumiotsu Chamber of Commerce and Industry on November 9 will address upcoming changes to remuneration revisions for nursing care and disability welfare facilities, focusing on how businesses can prepare for the 2027 regulatory shifts.

Additionally, a new special provision will be established on January 1, 2027, to assist workers balancing employment with medical treatment, childcare, or nursing care. This measure allows for the immediate revision of standard monthly remuneration if a worker's income drops by two or more grades due to reduced working hours. This aims to alleviate the burden of paying high insurance premiums during the typical three-month waiting period required by standard revisions. Employers must obtain written consent from employees, as these changes may impact future pension benefits and injury or childbirth allowances.
