Japan: Kochi minimum wage rises to 1,086 yen per hour
The minimum wage in Kochi Prefecture, Japan, increased to 1,086 yen per hour effective October 29. This represents a 63 yen raise from the previous rate of 1,023 yen.
With this adjustment, Kochi moves out of the bottom tier of national minimum wages, surpassing Miyazaki Prefecture by only 1 yen and matching Okinawa Prefecture. Local officials from the Kochi Labor Bureau held awareness events in Kochi City to inform workers and businesses of the change, encouraging employees to verify their pay stubs and contracts.
Despite the increase, concerns remain regarding the impact of rising prices on household finances. Additionally, some small and medium-sized enterprises have expressed difficulty in meeting the higher wage requirements.
