Japan Kokushu Society established to advance traditional spirits industry

The Japan Kokushu Society was established during a general meeting in Tokyo, attended by approximately 100 industry professionals. The organization aims to promote the development of traditional Japanese spirits, including sake, shochu, and awamori, through enhanced collaboration between breweries, government agencies, and academic institutions.

In a separate industry event, the Kokubu Group and its partner breweries will host a ‘Sake High Karuta Tournament’ at Matsuo Taisha in Kyoto on October 17. The event focuses on promoting the appeal of sake through ‘sake high’ (sake mixed with carbonated water) and a karuta competition featuring poems from 50 breweries. The event will include tasting booths from six participating breweries, such as Tamano Hikari Shuzo and Tosatsuru Shuzo.
