Japan labor market reports rising average hourly wages for July 2026

Reports from July 2026 indicate a rise in average hourly wages across various employment sectors in Japan. According to Mynavi Corporation, the national average hourly wage for part-time and casual workers rose to 1,297 yen, a 14 yen increase compared to the previous year. Notable increases were seen in the Chugoku-Shikoku region, which saw the largest year-on-year growth of 48 yen. In the three major metropolitan areas, the average wage reached 1,333 yen, with sectors such as food service and security/cleaning hitting record highs.

Data from dip Corporation regarding temporary staffing in the three major metropolitan areas shows an average hourly wage of 1,680 yen, up 45 yen from the previous year. The Kanto region reported the highest average at 1,760 yen. Within the staffing sector, IT and engineering roles commanded the highest wages at 2,395 yen, while web and creative roles averaged 1,937 yen. The number of temporary staffing job openings also saw a significant increase of 27.3% compared to the previous year.
