Japan Lacquer Summit held in Hirosaki, Aomori
The 28th Japan Lacquer Summit and the 59th National Convention of the Japan Lacquerware Cooperative Association were held in Hirosaki, Aomori Prefecture, on October 27. This marked the first time the summit was hosted in the city since 2006.
During the event, heads of 11 municipalities across Japan adopted a joint declaration aimed at achieving sustainable industrial development for the lacquerware sector. The participants discussed strategies to create new demand through product development and information dissemination. A key shared concern raised by Sabae City in Fukui Prefecture was the stable procurement of raw materials and the establishment of robust supply chains.
The declaration outlines specific policies for cooperation, including human resource development for the next generation and the expansion of sales channels both domestically and internationally. The next summit is scheduled to take place in Takaoka, Toyama Prefecture, in two years.
