Japan launches new SME subsidies for manufacturing innovation and local public‑relations support

The Small and Medium Enterprise Agency and the Small‑Business Infrastructure Development Organization have published the first application guidelines for the “New Business Entry and Manufacturing Commercial Service Subsidy.” The program supports SMEs and micro‑enterprises that develop innovative products or services, enter new high‑value markets, or expand overseas. Subsidy caps range from ¥7.5 million to ¥9 million per project, with matching rates of two‑thirds to one‑half depending on company size. Applications are accepted from 31 August to 30 September 2026.

Separately, Moriyama City in Shiga Prefecture and the Moriyama Chamber of Commerce are offering a “Public‑Relations Support Subsidy” for local small businesses. The grant covers two‑thirds of eligible advertising, design, web‑site, video‑production and related costs, up to a maximum of ¥100,000 per applicant. The scheme runs from 6 July to 30 November 2026 and aims to revive sales and employment impacted by rising oil and commodity prices.

Both initiatives target productivity growth, wage increases and sustainable development for Japan’s small‑business sector.
