Japan launches seasonal seafood menus and oyster festivals

Various seafood-focused culinary events and seasonal menus are being launched across Japan.

Washoku Sato has introduced a seasonal menu featuring Seto Inland Sea oysters and a hybrid fish species called ‘Burihira,’ developed by the Kindai University Fisheries Research Institute. The menu includes items such as oyster rice, oyster tempura, and Burihira sashimi bowls.

Additionally, ‘Mobile Oyster Hut’ events are being held at Yamada Denki locations in Hokkaido, including Sapporo and Kushiro. These events feature Miyagi Prefecture oysters and other grilled seafood. These pop-up events serve as part of a reconstruction support initiative to promote Tohoku's fishing industry and prevent the memory of the Great East Japan Earthquake from fading.
