Japan local authorities conduct disaster response drills

Local authorities in Japan are conducting specialized training exercises to improve disaster response capabilities.

In Tsuruoka City, the Tsuruoka Fire Department held its first collaborative drill with local construction businesses, including Miura Doken, to prepare for landslides. The exercise, held in the Oyama district, simulated a landslide scenario involving a missing person. It focused on coordinating heavy machinery deployment by construction companies to clear debris and assist firefighters in manual rescue operations. This initiative follows lessons learned from a landslide in the Nishime district in December 2022.

In Kyoto Prefecture, the Ayabe Police Station conducted a disaster response drill near the Ayabe City Hall. The training was designed to prepare officers for a seismic event with a Shindo 5 intensity, specifically focusing on procedures for rescuing individuals trapped inside collapsed buildings.
