Japan held its annual national memorial service at the Nippon Budokan to mark the 81st anniversary of the end of World War II. The ceremony was presided over by Emperor Naruhito and Prime Minister Takaichi, honoring more than 3 million Japanese citizens who lost their lives during the conflict.

In his address, Prime Minister Takaichi emphasized that Japan's current peace and prosperity are built upon the sacrifices of the war dead. He expressed gratitude to the fallen and reaffirmed Japan's commitment to a peaceful path, vowing that the tragedies of war would never be repeated. Emperor Naruhito also expressed deep sadness for the lives lost and the suffering of bereaved families, stressing the importance of passing these historical lessons to future generations.

The event was attended by approximately 3,663 bereaved family members and 3,000 other representatives from various sectors, including the heads of the House of Representatives and the House of Councillors. Across the country, various local memorial services were also held, as citizens and survivors reflect on the importance of peace amidst a tightening international security environment.
