Japan Meteorological Agency Issues Level‑4 Weather Warnings in Kumamoto and Okinawa
The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) issued a series of Level 4 weather warnings on 6–7 August 2026. On 6 August, a dry‑weather warning was released for Kumamoto Prefecture, covering Kumamoto City and dozens of surrounding municipalities.
The following day, JMA added Level 4 heavy‑rain and landslide danger warnings for Higashi Village and Nakijin Village on Okinawa’s main island, urging residents to move to safe locations. At the same time, a Level 4 storm‑surge warning was issued for Kumejima Town in the Okinawa archipelago, also calling for evacuation from vulnerable areas.
