Japan Ministry of Health withdraws cancer support posters following controversy

Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare has requested the removal of promotional posters for the film ‘Even if Mom is no longer in this world’ from hospitals following widespread public criticism. The tie-up was intended to raise awareness of support systems for AYA-generation cancer patients (ages 15–39), but the use of the film's title on posters displayed in medical facilities drew backlash from patients and medical professionals.

Critics argued that the title, which implies the death of a parent, was insensitive and could cause psychological distress to patients and families fighting illness. While the ministry stated the goal was to highlight resources for balancing treatment and work, they admitted to a “lack of consideration” for how the messaging would be received by those in clinical settings. The ministry is currently reviewing the future of the partnership.
