Japan Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism to host seminar on repurposing closed schools
Brainfirm, an independent consulting firm, will host a free hybrid seminar on November 30, 2026, focusing on the concept of “small concessions” to repurpose public facilities like closed schools. The event, supported by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and Tottori Bank, aims to address challenges posed by population decline and aging infrastructure.
The seminar will feature a keynote from Masashi Kobayashi, an official from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, regarding the significance of small concessions and available support measures for local governments. Consultants from Brainfirm will also provide guidance on the practical steps for commercializing public facility utilization.
Local businesses, including Hayabu Lab. and THE610BASE, will present case studies on transforming former schools into community hubs. The event will be held in Osaka and online via Zoom, offering opportunities for networking and individual consultations for municipal employees and private sector professionals interested in regional revitalization and PPP/PFI projects.
