Tokyo stock market rises as gaming and entertainment sectors gain momentum

The Tokyo stock market showed upward momentum on September 18, with the Nikkei 225 index rising by approximately 500 yen at the market opening.

In the gaming and entertainment sector, stocks saw significant buying interest. This trend was bolstered by the opening of Tokyo Game Show 2026 and a rotation of capital from AI and semiconductor stocks. Major companies including Sony Group, Nintendo, Bandai Namco Holdings, Sega Sammy Holdings, Konami Group, Square Enix Holdings, Capcom, and Koei Tecmo Holdings all experienced gains.

Additionally, GENDA reported record monthly sales for August, reaching 22.264 billion yen, a 24.2% increase year-on-year, driving its stock price higher. Nippon Falcom also saw gains following the successful launch of its new title, ‘Sora no Kiseki the 2nd’, which reached the top of the domestic Steam sales rankings.
