Japan weather alert: Typhoon 24 and heavy rain threats

Japan is facing a period of severe weather due to the development of Typhoon 24 and an active autumn rain front. Typhoon 24, which formed south of the Japanese archipelago, is expected to approach Okinawa around September 3, with the potential to linger near the islands.

Heavy rainfall and localized torrential downpours have already been reported in Okinawa, Kyushu, and parts of the Tohoku region, including the formation of a linear precipitation zone in Aomori Prefecture. Forecasters warn of continued heavy rain across the Hokuriku region and potential warning-level rainfall in the Kanto region through the weekend.

In addition to the typhoon, an autumn rain front is expected to move southward, bringing widespread heavy rain from Western to Eastern Japan through September 6. Residents are advised to remain vigilant against landslides, river flooding, and inundation in low-lying areas.
