Japan municipalities to host disaster prevention festivals

Various municipalities in Japan are organizing community festivals that combine entertainment with disaster preparedness education to engage residents, particularly younger generations.

In Fujimi City, the ‘Disaster Prevention x Lantern Festival’ is scheduled for September 27, 2026, at Bunka no Mori Park. The event features earthquake and fire extinguishing simulations, heavy machinery experiences, and smoke evacuation drills. A special evening event includes a limited sky lantern release.

In Jinseki Highlands Town, the ‘Jinseki Community Festival 2026’ will take place on November 22, 2026, at the Sanwa 182 Station. Aiming to combat declining disaster awareness through entertainment, the program includes drone racing, excavator operation, VR disaster simulations, and workshops on preparing emergency food and cardboard beds.
